Indonesia is accelerating digital transformation to strengthen its aviation sector, with the aim to reinforce management, public services and global competitiveness.
Indonesia’s aviation performances shows significant improvements with Garuda Indonesia achieving a 98.39% on - time performance (OTP) globally in May 2025 and leading the region, a milestone reflecting its successful rebuilding efforts, while airports and the broader domestic market also show recovery and growth and the country wants to achieve further improvements.
The Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi has called for stronger digital innovation to improve air travel management, public services and global competitiveness as reported by Antara News, the country’s national news agency, supplying news reports to many domestic media organizations.
During a technical coordination meeting, the Minister said that digital transformation is essential to increase competitiveness and raise passenger satisfaction, pointing to measures such as digital tracking of aircraft movements, optimising airport capacity, and enhancing flight routes.
State Apparatus and Bureocratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini also emphasized about the efforts to modernize the aviation industry through a comprehensive digital transformation strategy, highlighting the role of technology, describing it as the driver of transformation in aviation.
The Minister cited forecasts from the International Air Transport (IATA) that Indonesia could become the world’s fourth - largest aviation market by 2026, handling 355 million passengers annually.
To achieve this result requires sustained government backing, high - quality public services, and well - trained professionals, taking in consideration rapid advances, including smart airport technologies, AI - driven passenger flow management, and predictive aircraft maintenance, all factors that are reshaping the industry.
