Kazakhstan’s technology sector is experiencing significant growth, driven by a strong government support, the notorious Astana Hub, and a focus on areas like artificial intelligence, fintech, and blockchain are the confirmation of how the former Soviet Republic is actively working to diversify its economy beyond natural resources like oil and gas by promoting IT exports, establishing tech hubs, and attracting investment in its booming ecosystem and recently announced the creation of a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a systemic shift towards a digital state, set to be realised within the next three years.
Kazakhstan President Kassym - Jomart Tokayev outlined a comprehensive reform plan to advance in the modernisation of the country, highlighting AI as the central driver for transformation across all sectors, from government administration and industry to agriculture tourism and education among others.
According to the official website of Kazakhstan President, the initiative includes the integration of a digital tenge into the budgetary system, and a key component of this new, innovative development is the creation of a Digital Code, designed to standardize regulations surrounding technologies, digital platforms, data and having AI as a pillar.
The Digital Code will serve as the fundational legal framework for both business and government, and the establishment of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development is an institutional step.
Artificial Intelligence will encompasses all spheres from the public administration and the social sector to the economy and industry becoming absolute protagonist in all the processes linked to business, policies and resources.
Government services are slated to transition to intelligent platforms, while businesses will be encouraged to adapt digital technologies to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
The initiative also includes an important social component with the launch of a programme focused on educating students and schoolchildren in the fundamental of AI, and plans are also in place to introduce Artificial Intelligence as a separate subject in school curricula for the first time.
