South Africa | To Host G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting - 12th September 2025

South Africa will host the G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting on 12th September 2025 in Mpumalanga, province in eastern South Africa bodering the nations of Mozambique and Swaziland, an important event where officials are expected to endorse an action plan aimed at advancing sustainable tourism growth across the member nations as reported the official website of the South African Presidency in G20. 

The aim of the G20 Ministers' Meeting is to foster global cooperation for inclusive, sustainable, and resilient tourism growth, positioning tourism as a driver of economic, social and environmental change. 

The G20 provides a platform for multilateral cooperation to address critical issues and foster a more effective global voice for the tourism sector, a high - level forum for leaders to initiate a propositive and constructive dialogue and exchange knowledge on tourism’s role in global challenges, sharing best practices, and developing efficient and effective action plans.

South Africa Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille will chair the gathering, following the plan on discussions first launched during a virtual meeting which took place in March 2025, where member state identified four key priorities : 

    Harnessing artificial intelligence and innovation to boost start – ups and small businesses. 
•    Improving tourism financing and investment.
•    Enhancing air connectivity.
•    Strengthening resilience for inclusive and sustainable tourism development.


These are key objectives including developing a sensible tourism framework, using tourism for inclusive economic development, and building a more resilient sector prepared for future shocks.

Officials said the outcomes of G20 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting will shape the collective G20 Tourism Action Plan, setting guidelines and a framework for more inclusive, connected, and resilient tourism worldwide.
