Switzerland | Tennis Legend Roger Federer and Hollywood Star Halle Berry Shine a Spotlight on Autumn in the Country to Promote the Destination

Switzerland Tourism (ST), the national marketing and sales organization for Switzerland as a travel, vacation and conference destination released a witty uplifting video shot against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Lucerne, a large, irregularly shaped glacial lake in central Switzerland, known for its stunning scenery with surrounding snow - capped peaks like Rigi and Pilatus,and the picturesque, captivating city of Lucerne on its shores.

Tennis legend Roger Federer, a Swiss former professional player ranked as the world No.1 in men’s singles by ATP for 310 weeks and Hollywood Star Halle Berry shine a spotlight on Switzerland Tourism’s beautiful Autumn, to promote the country and celebrating Switzerland’s booming off - peak season tourism aboard Swiss most iconic public transport. 

The playful short film highlights not only the country’s dazzing full scenery, it also reflects the growing importance taken by the autumn for the Swiss tourism industry.

The new promotional film “Beautiful Autumn “ targets priority markets including Brazil, Germany, Japan, India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Southeast Asia.

For the second year tennis icon Roger Federer has joined forces with Switzerland Tourism (ST) to highlight the unique beauty of the Swiss autumn, and this time he has invited an internationally renowned guest : Halle Berry, the Oscar - winning American actress, known for roles in Die Another Day, Catwoman, Monster’s Ball, and the X - Men franchise, a presence bringing both glamour and humour to the promotional campaign.

In the video, Halle Berry playfully sabotages the shoot and she secretly delays production because she’s fallen so much in love with Switzerland that she does not want to leave the country.

The spot directed by German - Swiss filmmaker and screenwriter Marc Forster, known for directing the feature films Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction, Quantum of Solace , World War Z, and Christopher Robin and numerous television commercials as well and an Oscar nominee is styled as a behind - the scenes mockumentary.

The film cuts between Federer and Berry’s interviews and sweeping shots from a panoramic gondola, a vintage postal bus, and a lake steamer.

Chief Marketing Officer of Switzerland Tourism, André Hefti said that the film celebrates the highlights of a Swiss autumn : longer, higher - quality stays and more mindful travel, the essence of Travel Better.

To boost the destination appeal, Switzerland Tourism is also rolling out special Swiss Travel Pass promotions, giving international visitors unlimited first - class access to the country’s public transport network throughout the campaign. 

The timing couldn’t be better, Hotel data show that fall has become one of Switzrland’s fastest - growing tourism season, thanks to its mild climate and stunning colours.

Between September and November, hotel overnights have climbed 10.3% over the past years (2019 - 2024) outpacing the overall yearly growth of 7.1%.

During the 2024 fall season from September to November, guests generated nearly 3.3 million overnight stays in Switzerland’s mountain peaks.

The strongest growth in overnight stays compared to fall 2019 came from : 

•    Fribourg - + 33.3%
•    Eastern Switzerland - + 16.3%
•    The Bern Region - + 12%

In mountain cantons overnight stays rose 8.2% in Graubünden (+66.729) and 8.5%in Valais (+60.72) .
Swiss residents remain the main driver with +17% over five years, or +70.97 nights, but international travellers are also increasingly. Overnight stays from abroad since 2017 with the last year without a specific campaign, rose 8.2% with euro - zone visitors up 5.5%. and domestic overnights in hotels rose even stronger, at 21.7%.

In fall 2024, Swiss residents accounted for 59% of all overnight stays in the mountains, while European guests contributed 19% and long - haul visitor 22%.The most dramatic surge came indeed from the U.S. tourists, their stays skyrocketed by nearly 35% (+213.005 nights).
