Dubrovnik, stunning city in southern Dalmatia, Croatia facing the Adriatic Sea, one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean basin, highlighted by a vibrant culture, a rich history, outstanding medieval, baroque and renaissance architecture, a distinctive Old Town encircled by massive stone walls completed in the 16th century and a beautiful coastal setting is investing considerably in infrastructure, education and parks.
The City is currently carrying out around fitteen major projects, many co - financed by the European Union and national funds, aimed at improving quality of life and supporting long - term development.
Among the largest is the new Center for the Elderly near the General Hospital located in the heart of the city at about ten minutes by car from Port of Dubrovnik and thirty minutes from Dubrovnik International Airport. The investment of €22 million including €6.1 million in EU grants is for the development of a center boasting 205 beds, a day - care facility for 75 users, and services for an additional 410 seniors.
Upgrades are also underway in public spaces, including the restoration of Park Gradac, historic recreation space established in 1898, located a short walk from the Old Town on the top of the cliffs above Danče beach and the University offering views of the city and sea, and Park Pile, located at Stradun 32, just in front of Pile Gate, the main pedestrian entrance to the Old Town with over €5.5 million invested.
Other developments are new benches and greenery in Gruž, the neighbourhood which hosts the largest commercial port in Dubrovnik and serves as a hub for ferry and cruise ship traffic and preparations have begun for a monument to children killed in the Homeland War.
Education and childcare remain a priority in the Dalmatian city. Work continues on expanding Mokošica School, enabling single shift teaching, while Marin Držić Elementary school is undergoing energy renovation and the Kono kindergarten is also being modernized.
Other projects include upgrades to sport facilities on Šipan, community centre renovations, and improvements at Dubac Cementery located about 4 kilometres outside the city centre.
Dubrovnik Mayor’s Office stated that these works are part of an intensive investment cycle designed to ensure balanced urban development and better living standards for citizens.
