IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company headquartered in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK has unveiled the future opening of its first Kimpton branded property in Austria, located in Salzburg, charming city crossed by the Salzach River on the border of Germany, highlighted by stunning views of the Eastern Alps, famous for being the birthplace of the iconic composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,
Salzburg is also very famous for its charming pedestrian Altstadt, the historic Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, refined medieval and baroque buildings, beautiful gardens, and well known as a major centre for classical music concerts and events like the annual Salzburg Festival.
For the project of the Kimpton Salzburg, IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with tristar Austria GmbH, hotel group based in Vienna, specializes in the development and operation of branded hotels for major hotel chains, operating primarily in the DACH region, which encompasses Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
This development is part of IHG’s strategy to expand its luxury lifestyle brand presence in Europe, where it currently operates 125 Kimpton hotels and has six more in development.
The hotel is scheduled to open in mid - 2028 and will part of a redevelopment project led by Midstad, a European leadoing real estate company focused on the revitalization of city centres by developing sustainable, multifunctional buildings with a holistic approach to project development, emphasizing a needs - oriented design, architectural quality, and a long term vision for vibrant urban centres.
The property is located along the historic banks of the Sazach River, a prime location places it in close proximity to Salzburg’s famed cultural district. Guests will have easy access to renowned landmarks, including the iconic Mozart’s birthplace and Salzburg Cathedral, and key transport routes.
The project will include a 119 - room hotel including 11 suites with views of the river and the castle, along with high - end retail units and other shops.
Amenities will include a fitness centre, wellness area with a sauna, relaxation rooms, and versatile meeting spaces suitable for events and social gatherings.
The hotel will enter into the Kimpton brand, known for its boutique style, focusing on unique design, local art and culture to create a distinctive environment, highlighted by personalized services, and a playful and immersive atmosphere.
The collaboration with tristar Austria GmbH marks the first luxury partnership between the two companies, highlighting their commitment to expanding in premier destinations.
This signing is part of IHG Hotels & Resorts in the DACH Region where the British hospitality company has over 5.000 rooms open and in development across this region. In Austria alone, IHG operates 14 hotels under various brands, with five additional properties in the pipeline.
