India is charting an ambitious growth path for its aviation sector, which targets expanding the number of airports in the country from 163 in 2025 to over 350 by 2047 as part of its Aviation Vision 2047 as the government announced, and reported by Indo - Asian News Service (IANS), as private Indian news agency based in New Delhi.
The Indian government with its Aviation Vision focuses on expanding its airport network, increasing regional connectivity, having a significant growth in maintenance, repair and overhaul, drone manufacturing and pilot training, and with the aim supporting 25 million jobs by 2047.
The vision aims to modernising the entire aviation framework, drive economic growth by enhancing travel experiences, strengthening national integration, improving infrastructure, especially in tier - two and tier - three making India a developed nation by 2047.
According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) every rupee invested in aviation generates more than three times its value in economic output and supports six times as many jobs in related industries.
The aviation sector is a major economic contributor in India already sustains around 7.7 million indirect jobs and 370.000 direct positions, with growing demand for skilled workers such as pilots and engineers.
Currently India is the third - largest civil aviation market globally, driven by strong domestic and international passenger traffic growth. Nowadays the sector is dominated by low - cost carriers, with significant investments being made in infrastructure like new hubs in Delhi and Mumbai and undergoing modernization nationwide with a relevant government support.
The report emphasized that India’s aviation growth is also boosting foreign investment and technology transfer under the "Make in India" initiative created to encourage companies to develop, manufacture, and assemble products in the country, and with over 116 bilateral air service agreements Indian carriers are expanding their global reach.
The government says this expansion will make aviation a central engine of India’s US$10 trillion economy and ensure air travel becomes more affordable and accessible for millions.
