Masfout, UAE | Named as World’s Best Tourism Village for 2025

The United Nations Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) has named Masfout, a village within the Emirate of Ajman in the UAE, the World’s Best Tourism Village for 2025, recognising it as a global model for sustainable rural tourism. 

Set amidst the beautiful Hajar Mountains, surrounded by Ras Al Khaimah, the Dubai exclave of Hatta and the Sultanate of Oman, Masfoud is famous for its picturesque nature, fertile agricultural land and high - quality marble and according to the Emirate News Agency (WAM), it was chosen from among 270 villages across 65 countries for its outstanding commitment to environmental,  social and economic sustainability. 

In addition Masfout was also praised for preserving its natural and cultural heritage, empowering the local community, and supporting traditional crafts and enterprise. 

The selection process for the winning villages is based on these key criterias : 

•    Cultural and natural resources : The presence and recognition of significant cultural and natural assets.
•    Promotion and conservation of cultural resources : A commitment to preserving cultural heritage, values, and community identity.
•    Economic Sustainability : How tourism contributes to the local economy in a sustainable and inclusive way.
•    Social Sustainability : The positive social impacts of tourism on the community.
•    Environmental Sustainability : The village’s efforts to protect and preserve its natural environment.
•    Tourism development and value chain integration : The development of tourism that is integrated with other local sectors and value chains. 
•    Governance and prioritization : The clear prioritization of tourism in the village’s development strategy. 
•    Infrastructure and connectivity : The quality and accessibility of infrastructure and services. 
•    Health, Safety and Security : The measures in place to ensure the well – being and safety of both residents and tourists.

These criterias assess a village’s commitment to sustainable rural development, community preservation, tourism innovation and digital transformation.

This recognition reflects the UAE and the Emirate of Ajman’s efforts to build an integrated model of eco – friendly and rural tourism that balances development with the preservation of cultural identity, positioning Masfout as leading global destination for sustainable travel.
