Verón, Punta Cana, The Dominican Republic | Plans to Enhance Road Infrastructure in the Municipal District

Verón, well known for being the industrial area of Punta Cana where most of the hotel chains and suppliers have their warehouses and shops and also a base - city for hotel workers, elevated to the status of municipal district by Law No. 386 - 06 on October 2006, as the “first tourist municipal district in the country” located only a 5 minute drive to Downtown Punta Cana,  a 20 minute drive to the beach and to the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) will have a plan to enhance its road infrastructure.

The road infrastructure connecting Verón to Punta Cana is crucial because it links the main international airport to the numerous resorts, making the area a key economic and tourism hub for the Dominican Republic. Key infrastructure, such as the Autopista del Coral, was developed to connect the capital, Santo Domingo directly to La Romana, Higüey, Verón and Punta Cana tourist zones, establishing a critical transportation corridor, impacting property values and the region’s competitiveness as a tourist destination.

To identify solutions for traffic congestion in the area, the Director of the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett), Pascual Cruz Méndez conducted a comprehensive supervision and diagnostic tour in the municipal district.

During the visit the Digesett Director was accompanied by Mayor Ramón Antinio Ramírez, regional director of Intrant Félix de la Rosa, Igor Souza of Intraf, President of Asoleste Ernesto Velez, and deputy director of Planning for Digesett, Alejandro Piñeiro, among others.

Using drone technology, critical congestions points were assessed and coordinated actions were defined with municipal authorities, the private sector, and nationality mobility agencies to improve traffic flow and road safety.

The visit highlighted the importance of directly addressing key traffic issues and implementing immediate and sustainable solutions in the busy tourist areas.

Digesett Director later met with Frank Rainieri and Frank Elias Rainieri, President and CEO of the Grupo Punta Cana, leading company in the sustainable development of tourism in the Dominican Republic to discuss mobility and road safety strategies.

The business leaders praised the official’s proactive approach and emphasized the importance of strengthening road safety and infrastructure and they offered their full support for the upcoming actions that Digesett will implement in this important tourist destination.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Digesett awarded the Rainieri family its official pin in recognition of their commitment to mobility and traffic safety in the region.
