Lesotho, a landlocked country and kingdom encircled by South Africa, the largest of only three sovereign enclave in the world, through its Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts & Culture will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Tourism Board (ATB) with the aim to drive investment, business and tourism development in the country.
The ceremony will be presided over by ATB Executive Chairman Dr Cuthbert Simphiwe Ncube and Principal Sectretary Mrs Mantiti Khabo for signing a MoU that is non - binding but sets a cooperation framework for three years, with formal obligations to be defined in separate agreements.
MoU features :
• Marketing and Investment promotion : Raise Lesotho’s visibility in regional and global markets and attracts tourism investment.
• Joint events : Organize a tourism investment summit, an infrastructure development conference, and a winter adventure and trade expo ar AfriSki.
• Entrepreneurship support : Implement programs to foster youth entrepreneurship in the tourism sector.
• Intra - African collaboration : Strenghten collaboration within the continent to promote sustainable and inclusive growth.
• Positioning : Position the “Mountain Kingdom” as a premier high – altitude tourism destination.
• Non – binding framework : The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishes a three - year cooperation framework, with specific obligations to be defined in separate agreements.
The pact aims to significantly boost the country’s tourism sector and position it as a competitive ecotourism and adventure destination.
This strategic alliance is widely seen as a turning point for Lesotho tourism sector, which has been historically underutilized despite its natural and cultural assets. By leveraging the ATB’s network, resources and expertise, the pact is expected to attract significant investment, diversify tourism offerings, and create jobs for women and youth.
