Dubai, UAE | Contactless Digital Check - In System Implemented in the City’s Hotels

Dubai Crown Prince and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved and announced the implementation of a new digital, contactless check - in system for hotel guests in Dubai, using their biometric data in the UAE’s city and emirate as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM).

This initiative is part of the implementation of digital technologies in Dubai’s tourism sector. Previously, smart biometric corridors were introduced at the city’s airport, allowing passengers to pass passport control in a matter of seconds.

The innovative system, which is already in place, will allow guests the entire check - in procedure on their smartphone before arriving at the hotel, uploading their ID and biometrics enabling seamless check – in on future stays, with information stored securely until the ID expires. This will make check - in at the hotel faster than usual.

It is specified that almost a quarter of annual guests arrive in Dubai repeatedly. These guests will not be asked to go through the check - in process every time: on their second arrival, they will only have to pass a quick facial recognition procedure.

New digital, contactless check – in system key features:

·    Pre - Arrival Registration: Guests use a digital link (via hotel apps/websites to upload ID and biometric info remotely.

·     Biometric Verification: A one time ID/biometric upload allows for future check – ins with a quick facial scan.

·    Citywide Framework: A unified system adopted by licensed hotels and holiday homes, moving beyond property – specific tools.

·     Data Validity: Securely hold data remains valid until the ID expires, streamlining repeat visits.

·     Seamless Experience: Eliminates queues, offering a faster, more convenient arrival from travel to relaxation.

How It Works:

·     Receive Link: Guests get a digital link before their stay.

·      Upload Details: They securely upload ID (passport/emirates ID) and perform a biometric scan like a selfie.

·       Arrival: Upon arrival, they bypass the front desk and use of facial recognition for authentication.

This initiave, driven by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) aligns with Dubai’s vision for a smart, seamless urban environment, boosting operational efficiency and enhancing the visitor experience.

The Director General of the Dubai Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Helal Said Almarri said that the implementation of the contactless check - in system across the city is a turning point for Dubai’s hospitality industry and a clear example of progess in meeting the objectives of the D33 programme.

The D33 development was adopted in 2023 and has a 10 - year term. It is aimed at accelerating growth and doubling Dubai’s economy, as well as consolidating the city’s position among the world’s top three economically developed metropolises by 2033.
