Hyatt Hotels Corporation, American multinational hospitality company based in Chicago, Illinois has announced plans to open a new Andaz Hotel in Hiroshima, a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island and the principal centre of the Chugoku Region, largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II, known for its historical significance and cultural sites include, the Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 event, containing the ruins of Genbaku Dome, one of the buildings that was left standing near ground zero, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The city is also known for other prominent sites include Shukkei - en, a formal Japanese garden, Hiroshima Castle, a fortress surrounded by a moat and a park, and as a hub for creative industries, attracting designers, artists, and musicians.
Hiroshima is accessible via Japan’s high - speed rail network, with direct Shinkansen services from Osaka and Tokyo and is also served by Hiroshima Airport. This connectivity is expected to help the hotel attract international and domestic travellers.
The development agreement for Andaz Hiroshima was signed between a Hyatt Hotels Corporation affiliate and an affiliate of Takenaka Corporation, one of five major general contractors in Japan providing architectural, engineering, and construction services headquartered in Chūō - Ku, Osaka.
The project is part of a significant urban development initiative in the Japanese city and the hotel is expected to open in 2027 occupying the 21st to 31st floors of a mixed - use of the KAMIHACHI X high rise'
The development is part of a major project in Central Hiroshima in the Motomachi Aioidori District, a one - minute walk from the Electric Railway’s “Tatemachi”, public transports and close to landmarks like the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The hotel aims to integrates local cultural elements into its design and services and will feature 235 rooms and suites with modern comforts, restaurants, a rooftop bar and restaurant, a fitness centre with an indoor pool, and banquet and event spaces.
The property will be the second Andaz hotel in Japan, following Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills and will join the Andaz brand part of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group, focuses on local culture, immersive experiences and a “casual luxury vibe”. Brand's Key features include dynamic, locally inspired design and art, freshly sourced food and beverages, vibrant lounge spaces, and unique cultural programming.
