The Dominican Republic | Tourism Minister Announced Record Investment in Tourist Security

The Dominican Republic is continuing to enhance tourist security across the country after implementing a dedicated police force (POLITUR/CESTUR) in several tourist zone, a national 911 emergency number, strong private security in tourist areas, visible police patrols, multilingual officers, hotel security upgrades, now Tourism Minister David Colado announced further significant improvements in tourist security across the Caribbean island. 

For the first time the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic has allocated more than US$9 million to strengthen the Tourist Police, a record investment that includes nearly 200 new trucks and additional, modern operational tools, delivered in coordination with the National Police to reinforce safety in major destinations.

The Minister of tourism emphasized that crime in areas such as Bávaro - Punta Cama. Samaná, and Puerto Plata remains among the lowest in the region and he credited enhanced measures for maintaining these favourable conditions. 

Politur’s Director, General Minoru Matsunaga, highlighted the effectiveness of recent strategies, including the use of body cameras, digital radios, and a new system for identitying individuals with criminal records, tools that have helped keep tourist zone safe and maintain low incident levels.
