Lisbon, Portugal’s capital and largest city has been selected among the winning destinations in the “Best of the Best” category of the Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards 2026.
The Portuguese city occupies a position of relevance in the international landscape appearing in 15th place, recognized for its blend of historic charm, vibrant culture, delicious food, and modern attractions, earning high accolades for its top hotels, tours, and overall travel appeal in recent Travelers’ Choice Awards.
The “Best of the Best” title of the “Travellers’ Choice Awards” celebrates the highest level of travel excellence and is awarded to destinations that receive a high volume of reviews and opinions that exceed the expectations of the Tripadvisor Community over a 12 - month period.
The ranking is led by Bali, Indonesia, with London, UK and Dubai, UAE occupying the remaining places on the podium, in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
Lisbon surpassed important destinations such as Tokyo, Japan and the Maldives, with Tripadvisor defining the Portuguese capital as “having everything you expect from a European city with centuries of history, from winding cobblestone streets to medieval castles.”
In addition Tripadvisor points out that Lisbon is “much more than just its past”, noting that today, the oldest monuments naturally coexist with a moder modern atmosphere, and visitors are advised to enjoy the classics, such as fado, custard tarts and tiles, but also make time for novelties, such as the contemporary art galleries and urban art at LX Factory.
Travellers praise Lisbon's walkability, iconic yellow trams, Fado music, unique neighbourhoods like Alfama, and landmark sights like Belém Tower, highlighting its appeal for both classic sightseeing and contemporary experiences.
