MEIMINGER Hotels, a German group founded in Berlin in 1999, a unique hybrid hospitality brand combining hotel comfort with hostel - style facilities (guest kitchens, game zones) catering to tourists, families, and school groups with budget - friendly, and central locations has revealed plans to open its first property in Portugal, a 228 - room property in Porto, second largest city of the country after Lisbon, expanding its presence in Europe in a relevant and very demanded destination.
The opening of the MEININGER Hotel Porto is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028 and its development is being carried out in cooperation with Eiffage Immobilier, a major player in building and construction in France and Europe, based in Vélizy - Villacoublay, France and Covivio, a renowned French real estate company founded in 1998 and headquartered in Paris.
The hotel will be a newly constructed building subdivided in two structures with a central garden with a total area of 9.150 square metres located at Rua Pinto Bessa 320 in the Bomfim district, located near the Douro River just east of Porto’s city centre, an authentic, up - and - coming, and increasingly popular district known for its blend of historic charm, industrial heritage, and, more recently, a bohemian, hipster vibe, featuring a mix of traditional tiled houses, trendy coffee shops, art spaces, and a more local, quieter atmosphere compared to downtown.
The site offers an easy access to downton Porto attractions and the airport with excellent transport connections thanks to the presence of the Campanhã multimodal terminal providing metro, train, and bus links. The hotel designed to accommodate a range of guest types including families, groups, and individual travellers, will features 228 guest rooms. The room configuration includes 21 double rooms, 70 triple rooms, 120 quadruple rooms, and 17 six - bedrooms.
