Whitbread PLC, a British multinational hotel and restauranat company headquartered in Houghton Regis, England, UK has announced plans to develop an 82 - room Premier Inn hotel in Chichester, a city in the United Kingdom located in the English county of West Sussex, a gateway to the South Downs, beautiful beaches like West Wittering, and the famous Goodwood Estate, home of motorsports, horse racing.
Chichester is a centre with a relevant cultural and historical heritage, an important Roman and Anglo - Saxon settlement, a major market town from those times through Norman and medieval times to present day, crossed by two watercourses, such as the Chichester Canal and the River Lavant, famous for its 12th - century cathedral, the only one in the country with a detached bell tower and several attractions include, Fishbourne Roman Palace, a compact medieval - meets Georgian city centre with the historic Market Cross and highlighted by a very vibrant arts scene.
For the development Whitbread PLC has acquired a field from Hanbury Properties, which completed significant preparatory work on the site before its sale, including remediation and infrastructure improvements.
The construction of the new hotel is expected to begin later this year. This expansion aligns with Whitbread PLC’s broader growth strategy across Sussex and the south coast of England.
This project is part of Whitbread PLC’s strategy to expand its presence in Chichester, complementing the existing Premier Inn at Gate Leisure Park and the new hotel will bring the total number of Premier Inn bedrooms in the city to 165. The decision to establish a second hotel in the city is driven by strong for accommodations in the area.
The future hotel will be located on Bognor Road near the A27/A259 junction, a strategic position providing accessibility for both business and leisure travellers.
The company plans to increase its network of hotels in West and East Sussex to 23 locations, with a new Premier Inn set to open in April 2026 in Bognor Regis, a seaside resort in West Sussex, 39 km west of Brighton and 10 km from Chichester.
In addition to the Chichester project, Whitbread PLC is preparing to start construction on its first Premier Inn in Littlehampton Town Centre, a seaside resort in the Arun District of West Sussex on the English Channel on the eastern bank pf the mouth of the River Arun, following the demolition of a former supermarket on the site.
The group is also exploring opportunities for a new location in Rye, a picturesque cobbled town full of art galleries, quaint cafes, and fine restaurants near the coast in East Sussex.
Whitbread PLC currently operates over 840 hotels, offering nearly 86.000 bedrooms across the United Kingdom and Ireland with the aim to expand its capacity to 125.000 rooms in these markets as part of its long – term growth plan.
