More than 502.000 tree and 656.000 shrubs were planted in Belarus in 2025 following a plan of reforestation, mainly in the regions of the capital of the country, Minsk, Brest, Gomel and Mogilev as reported by BelTA, Belarus’ largest news agency, citing Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and environmental Protection Alexei Stasiukevich.
The Government of Belarus has adopted a national plan for biodiversity conservation, the area of territories with special protection that will increase to 22% of the country’s total and the so called "year of beautification" became a period of intense reforestation nationwide.
Part of the initiative included two national volunteer days when more than 4 million people participated in the reforestation of residential areas and the improvement of playgrounds and sports areas.
In the initiative in addition more than 67.000 seedlings were located along national and local roads, 33 million flowers were also planted, a third of them in the capital Minsk, and in a vast area of approximately 524 hectares, lawns were conditioned.
For visitors to aquatic areas, 115 parking lots near bodies of water were repaired, in addition, 90 bicycle parking spaces and rest areas were reestablished and embellished, 41 springs were improved, and in total 50 watercourses and 76 reservoirs were cleaned.
Another focus of the plan was the recovery and digitization of quarries. In Belarus there are 1.183 quarries for the extraction of common minerals. Of of these, 305 were recovered with a total area of restored land exceeding 266 hectares and more than 560 quarries were digitized, representing more than 47% of the total.
In addition by the end 202 a complete electronic model of all quarries in the country is planned to be created.
