Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania | Steps Up Road Network Upgrades to Ensure Year - Round Access

Tanzania’ Ngorongoro Conservation Area established in 1959 as a multiple land use area in the north of the country with wildlife coexisting with semi - nomadic Maasai pastoralists practicing traditional livestock grazing territory spans vast expanses of highland plains, savanna. Savanna woodlands, forests and highlighted by the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest caldera, through its Authority (NCAA) is upgrading across its 646 - kilometres road network to ensure year - round access for tourists, investors and local communities. 

The plan aims to improve safety and travel times and is expected to boost tourism, visitor confidence, attract investment and broaden economic opportunities for communities in and around Ngorongoro targeting key routes like Loduare - Golini and the Crater Rim as well as to keep roads passable during heavy rain. 

Commissioner Abdul - Razaq Badru, following an inspection in Endulen, an administrative ward in the Ngorongoro District of the Arusha Region, said works are ongoing without interruption, with machinery operational to keep routes passable in all seasons. 

Key details of the road upgrades include

•    Key Projects: Major improvements are underway for the 88 km Loduare to Golini road, 110 km of crater rim roads, 76 km View Point to Naiyobi, 52 km Endulen to Ndutu, 23 km Ndutu to Golini, 54 km Olduvai Museum to Nasera., and 77 km Kimba – Endulen – headquarters managed by TANROADS. 
•    Infrastructure Goal: The NCAA is committed to ensuring no downtime for infrastructure maintenance with machinery to keep routes open. 
•    Economic Impact: These upgrades aim to enhance the tourist experience for international and local visitors, supporting a target of Sh350 billion in revenue.
•    Safety and Access: The renovation improve safety, decrease travel times, and ensure reliable access for tourists, investors, and local communities.
