Tunisia | Significantly Upgrading its Public Transport Fleet with New Buses from China

Tunisia is significantly upgrading its public transport fleet by acquiring hundreds of new buses from China, specifically from manufacturers like Golden Dragon and King Long with a batch of over 460 buses, marking the largest procurement in the country’s history.

The initiative aims to modernize outdated infrastructure, improve commuter experience, and provide reliable transport, particularly for residents and school/university students n busy areas like Greater Tunis. 

According to the Tunisian News Agency (TAP), these new 12 - metre and 18 - metre buses, according twill be distributed among 15 regional transport companies in 14 cities of the North African country  to improve efficiency in services in different areas, notably enhancing the Tunisian transport network and optimizing mobility conditions for citizens.

The buses are designed to handle Tunisia’s climate, including high humidity and sandstorms, and are aimed at improving the reliability of daily transit.

Earlier, Tunisia received an order from China that included around 158 new buses, of which 110 were destined for regional transport companies and 48 for the National Intercity Transport Company.

Beyond purchasing, the cooperation includes plans, for, or discussioins on localized maintenance training, after - sales service networks, and potential future integration of electric buses.

The Ministry of Transport of Tunisia stressed that this initiative is part of the state policy aimed at developing the public transport system and raising the quality of its services in all country’s governorates, stressing that these actions have the follow - up and support of President Kais Saied.
