The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially launched the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), a digital management platform aimed at modernizing tourism administration, strengthening regulation, streamlining licensing and compliance, improving sector 0 wide data management, a major initiative that enhances Ghana’s competitiveness within the global tourism industry.
The launch of this new system took place at an industry engagement at Accra City Hotel on 19 May 2026 moving Ghana’s tourism sector in a new era, an event that brought together leaders of the tourism industry, management and staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority, tourism stakeholders, development partners, private sector operators and other invited guests to witness what officials described as a transformative step toward tourism governance in the Africa country.
This centralized digital platform that consolidates registration, licensing, inspection, levy payments, and public verification of tourism facilities replaces fragmented manual processes and enables operators to manage compliance, submit applications and print licenses entirely online.
In addition a public - facing verification allows partners and travellers to confirm the authenticity of licensed tourism businesses in real time via mobile or web search.
A next phase will introduce electronic licensing and a customer service data module to support real - time sector analysis, policy development, and investing planning.
The digital platform’s launch comes against a backdrop of significant sector growth: accommodation establishment in the country have risen from 540 in 1995 to 5.424 in 2025, while licensed travel trade businesses and restaurants have grown fourfold over the same period.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operation, Ekow Sampson noted that the initiative is about improving efficiency, transparency, and enabling data - driven decision - making for regulators and operators alike.
Ghana Tourism Authority Chief Executive Marylin Efua Houadjeto said the system directly addresses longstanding issues including fraudulent operators, manual licensing delays, and fragmented data collection, describing it as foundational to positioning tourism as a major pillar of national development.
