Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry led by Agus Gumiwang Kartadamita announced that the country is expected to become the world’s fourth 0 largest aviation market by 2030, highlighting Indonesia’s rapidly expanding role in global air transport and aerospace development according to projections by the International Transportation Association (IATA) and replicated by ANTARA, a news agency that delivers real time information on various events from Indonesia and around the world.
Driven by rapid growth in domestic air travel demand, passenger volume exceeding 300 million, and massive infrastructure expansion, the Ministry of Industry is fostering this relevant growth by enhancing the national aerospace supply chain, increasing aircraft manufacturing, and accelerating digital transformation in aviation.
The Minister stressed that the global aircraft market remains very promising, with data indicating that global aircraft orders reached a record 15.700 units in 2024. In addition, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) estimates that by 2045 Indonesia will reach about 7.4 million domestic flights and approximately 690 million passengers.
The official emphasized that the goal is to build a collaboration that generates tangible technology transfer and increase local content in the aircraft manufacturing industry.
Likewise, the Minister of National Planning, Rachmat Parmbudy, expressed his hope that Indonesia can become a first - tier supplier for transport aircraft, going as far as manufacturing full wings or even complete aircraft, with the possibility of establishing a production plant in Kertajati, a district located in the Majalengka Regency of West Java, primarily known for housing the Kertajati International Airport (KJT), thus positioning Indonesia as an aerospace hub in the Asia - Pacific region.
Key features of this projected growth include:
• Rapid Market Expansion: Indonesia is currently the second - fastest - growing aviation market in the world after China.
• Massive Passenger Growth: Projections show air passenger volume reaching 355 million annually by 2036.
• Infrastructure Development: The country holds a massive network of 251 airports with plans to increase that number to meet rising demand.
• Aerospace Ecosystem Strengthening: The Indonesian government is focusing on strengthening the national aircraft industry by encouraging domestic firms to integrate into international supply chains.
• Technological Transformation: Key initiatives include implementing AI - driven passenger flow management, smart airport systems, and predictive maintenance for aircraft.
• Key Partners: Collaborations between state - owned aerospace companies like PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) and other domestic companies are aimed at strengthemning the supply chain.
This growth is driven by the “Indonesia Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Roadmap”, wich helps to sustain the industry.
