Beazil is accelerating its transition to sustainable urban mobility with major investments across multiple municipalities, the country’s broader electro -mobility push is backed by hundreds of millions in global and federal fundings.
According to Brasil 247, a Brazilian news and political analysis website headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing of more than 267 million reais (about $51 millon) for the acquisition of 432 less polluting buses.
The country is expanding its fleet of sustainable buses with new vehicles that use technology which significantly reduce pollutant emissions compared to previous models.
In addition to the environment benefits, the fleet will have air conditioning, accessibility resources and an electronic ticketing system, contributing to raising the quality of the service provided to the population.
According to the BNDES, the renewal of the fleet is part of the strategy to promote more efficient and sustainable urban mobility. The new buses are expected to serve more than 540.000 passengers per day, offering greater comfort, safety and less environment impact.
The new
buses will replace older vehicles in different regions of the country. Blumenau
will receive 60 units, the Federal District will have 140 new buses for various
administrative regions, and the Baixada Santista will contemplated with 224
vehicles distributed among municipalities in the region.
In addition to modernising public transport, the renewal of the fleet should
increase operational efficiency and improve the conditions of movement of
users. The replacement of vehicles will also contribute to reducing the
emission of polluting gases and particles, in line with the goals of
sustainability and modernization of urban infrastructure.
