IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company headquartered in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK, has officially opened a 34 - room boutique hotel in Mexico City, Mexico’s capital and largest city, a vibrant high - altitude metropolis built on the ruins of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlán. It is famous for its deep indigenous roots, grand colonial architecture, bustling street food, world - class museums and lively cultural neighbourhoods.
Kimpton El Castelar opened its doors at Emilio Castelar 107, Colonia Polanco in Mexico’s City Polanquito neighbourhood, a charming pedestrian - friendly enclave within Mexico City’s upscale Polanco district. Situated south of Avenida Presidente Masaryk, it centres around the historic Pasaje Polanco and Parque Abraham Lincoln. The area blends leafy streets, 1930s Spanish Colonial architecture, and world – class dining.
The property is located near Auditorio Nacional, Chapultepec Castle, the Archaeological Museum, and Avenida Masaryk, in the heart of Lincoln Park and occupies the Roel Building, a 1940s architectural landmark designed by architect Francisco J. Serrano during the Mexican Art Nouveau period.
Interiors features original Mexican art, handwoven rugs and using materials such as terracotta, metals, and natural stones, with wood floors and cement tiles patterned in style reminiscent of traditional Mexican ceramics.
The boutique hotel features 34 stylish and comfortable rooms decorated with warm stone and terracotta include bespoke furniture and décor sourced in Mexico, original art pieces from local artists, and most rooms offer a soaking tub.
Guests at the hotel receive free daily morning coffee and premium teas (“Kickstart”), as well as nightly complimentary beer, wine, and chef prepared bites in the “Social Hour” in the lobby.
Amenities at Kimpton El Castelar includes multiple outdoor terraces, a rooftop pool, complimentary bikes for guest use, yoga mats in each room, and pet - friendly accommodations that allow animals of all sizes to stay at no additional charge.
The property joins the Kimpton brand characterized by hotels known for their boutique style, focusing on unique design, often incorporating local art and culture to create a distinctive environment, and highlighted by personalized service, as well as an immersive atmosphere.
The launch of Kimpton El Castelar follows the opening of Kimpton Virgilio, which opened in 2024 in Polanco, in the Mexican capital. Both properties are located in historically preserved apartment buildings. Kimpton’s portfolio currently includes 87 hotels open worldwide and 67 hotels in its pipeline.
