Tamil Nadu, India | Created Five New Renewable Energy Zones to Streamline Green Energy Projects

Tamil Nadu, the southernmost state of India, renowned for its rich history, Dravidian - style Hindu temples, and vibrant culture, created five new Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) to streamline green energy projects with the implementation of solar and wind developments.

This administrative reorganisation aims to make project approvals more investor - friendly, boost green generation capacity, and support strategic initiatives like battery implementation of wind and solar projects in line with the government’s goal of accelerating the clean energy transition, according to information from Trinity Mirror, a well - established daily newspaper and publishing company based in Chennai. 

Each zone will cover specific distribution regions in the state. Chennai will cover Chennai, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore; Tiruchirappalli will oversee Thanjavur and Villupura; while Tiurnelveli,  Coimbatore, and Madurai will manage their respective areas including Karur, Erode and Madurai in the case of the latter.

Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar stressed that this move will not only boost renewable generation capacity and optimize services to investors, but also supports strategic initiatives such as battery storage system.

Under the new structure, deputy executive engineers will lead project management, monitoring and implementation, and additional responsibilities have been created at the State Electricity Board (TNEB) headquarters in Chennai to strengthen oversight, which all will significantly reduce approval timelines and improve key services such as technical reassessment, grid infrastructure coordination and one - stop shop for investors.

Beyond standard solar and wind generation, the new zones actively support strategic Battery Enegy Storage Services (BESS) to address grid constraints.

These administrative reform align with the state’s broader clean energy transition where over half of the installed capacity is already green and a Green Hydrogen hub is in development. the Indian state seeks to move decisively towards its ambitious goal of sustainability increasing renewable energy production by 2030, consolidating its position as a benchmark in energy transition in India.

Bahariya Oasis, Egypt | A Team of Archaeologists Discovered New Architectural Elements of the Old Qasr Temple

A team of archaeologists have discovered new architectural elements of the Old Qasr Temple from the 26 th dynasty, which ruled Egypt between 664 and 525 BC, during excavations at the complex of Al  Qasr Al - Qadim in the Bahariya Oasis, a depression and a natural rich oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt, approximately 370 km away from the capital of the country, Cairo as reported by Sada El – Balad,  a news website and satellite television channel headquartered in Giza, citing Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The discovery includes  a large  room called hypostyle hall with a roof held up by 16 sandstone columns. Archaeologists also found stone blocks with the names and titles of King Psamtik  from the 26th Dynasty and walls had carvings of old gods like Amun - Ra (the sun god), Amunet and Khonsu (the moon god).

Experts also found a stone tablet (called a stela), from the time of King Hamenhotep I (18th Dynasty). This means the site was hundreds of years earlier than specialists first thought.

In addition, various artifacts were recovered that will allow the architecture of the temple to be reconstructed more accurately to deepen the knowledge of its history.

These items teach experts about the daily life and religion of ancient Egypt. According to the Secretary General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, Hisham El - Lethy, the new findings confirm the historical and religious importance of the complex, which at different times functioned as one of the main administration centres of the region.

The official added that these discoveries highlight the richness of Egypt’ s archaeological heritage, which still holds numerous treasures to be discovered, and highlighting the high level of professionalism of Egyptian archaeologists, whose work plays a fundamental role in the development of cultural tourism.

Investigations at the Bahariya Ossis complex have been carried out since 2014. Notable discoveries  apart the main hypostile hall, with 16 sandstone columns, include several named outbuildings and shrines, as well as fragments of reliefs and hieroglyphic inscriptions named after ancient Egyptian divinities, including Amun – Ra, Amunet, and Khonsu.

Minor Hotels, an international operator, investor and owner in the hospitality industry founded in 1978 and based in Bangkok, Thailand, has signed an agreement to open a 120 - room hotel in Innsbruck, capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol, a city in the Alps, uniquely blends a 500 - year - old historic city centre with dramatic world – class mountain terrain, featuring stunning attractions like the iconic Goldenes Dachl ( Golden Roof), avant -garde architecture like the Zaha Hadid - designed Bergisel Ski Jump, and offering instant access to hiking and skiing via the Nordkette cable cars.

Built in 1869 the NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa has historically hosted notable guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Albert II of Monaco, and the Rolling Stones among others.

The property is owned by Dr Ernst Hutterer, with Christie & Co, a leading business property advisor based in London, England, UK specialising in operational real estate, hospitality, healthcare, childcare, retail and leisure sectors, supporting the operator search process.

The hotel surrounded by the majestic Tyrolean Alps is positioned near the historic centre, located directly opposite the central train station within a walking distance of landmarks such as the Golden Roof, Maria – Theresien – Straße, the Imperial Hofburg, the Court Church, the Stadtturm, the Hofgarten , and Congress Innsbruck, providing an easy access to the city’s main cultural,  tourist and business attractions.

Scheduled to open in 2029 the property will have a comprehensive renovation with plans include increasing the number of guestrooms, adding further floors. After the  renovation the hotel is expected to feature approximately 120 rooms, a restaurant and bar with external access, a rooftop bar, a wellness area., indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and dedicated spaces for meetings and events.

The project also involves reviving the historic “Baroksaal” (Barowue Salon), which has previously hosted receptions and  balls of relevance, planned to be a venue for celebrations, events, and social gatherings.

It features nearly 100 properties in major cities across Europe and the Americas, as well as locations in the Middle East, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Indonesia | Modernising its Maritime Infrastructure Through Environmental Incentives

Indonesia is modernizing its maritime infrastructure through environmental incentives with the Indonesia Green Port Initiative , leveraging environmental sustainability and carbon reductions to boost global logistics competitiveness. The framework requires ports to adopt clean energy and digital systems, ultimately transforming a significant portion of the country’s nearly 350 ports. 

The measure seeks to accelerate the decarbonization of the port sector and encourage the adoption of clean technologies and according to Antara, a news agency that delivers real time information on various events from Indonesia and around the world, 

the Asian country is considering the implementation of carbon - limited economic incentives for ports that adopt sustainable practices,  as part of its strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move toward more environmentally friendly port operations. 

During the launch of the Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) 2026 in Jakarta, Deputy Minister Coordinator for Affordability and Food Security Nani Hendiarti explained that the government is considering incorporating sustainable ports into the national Economic Value of Carbon (NEK) scheme. 

If the proposal is approved, terminals that meet environmental standards will be able to access economic incentives similar to those received by buildings certified as sustainable. 

Core Drivers of Port Modernization: 

•    Green & Sjmart Port Initiatives (GSPI): The Indonesian government evaluates ports across two main vectors, with 80% of the score based on environmental performance, such as waste management from ships, renewable energy usage, and carbon emissions reduction, and 20% based on digitalization and smart port technology. 
•    Carbon Economic Value (NEK) Framework: The Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs is preparing economic incentives to motivate port operations to decrease carbon emissions under Presidential Regulation Number 110. 
•    Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV): To property implement these upcoming carbon incentives, the government is establishing a specific MRV methodology to accurately quantify emissions across port operations. 

On - the - Ground Transformations: 

•    Eco - Fishing and Infrastructure: Specific ports like the Bitung Oceanic fishing Port, have set a model by supplying clean electricity at unloading docks, banning environmentally harmful fishing gear, and implementing on - site waste banks. 
•    Mangrove Restoration and Shore Power: State - owned port operator Pelindo is heavily involved in greening port areas to support national mangrove restoration targets and providing shore power supply for docked vessels. 
•    Policy Developments: Discussions are exploring ways these modernization efforts can lead to carbon incentives for green ports to support long – term economic and logistical growth. 

The initiative is part of the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 110/2025 on the Economic Value of Carbon, which supports Indonesia’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32% through national actions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 or sooner. 

Indonesia launched the Green and Smart Port program in 2019. By 2025, a total of 41 ports had participated in the evaluation process and eight were certified as green and smart ports.

Namibia is actively streamlining visa processes to its borders, eliminating entry and procedures for cruise ship passengers arriving at ports like Walvis Bay and Lüderitz. Following the transition from visa – free travel to a Visa on Arrival scheme, government officials are auditing immigration processes on major vessels to eliminate bottlenecks and provide a seamless travel experience.

With the aim to boost cruise ship tourism, Namibia’s tourism and immigration authorities have met with local service providers to address facilitations and compliance challenges affecting the country’s cruise ship tourism actors.

The stakeholders engagement, hosted by the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, was led by Deputy Minister Anselm Marungu saw discussions focused on implementing more efficient and simplified visa procedures for cruise ship tourists, improving processing times, and strengthening coordination among relevant authorities to ensure a seamless entry experience.

The National Tourism Board emphasised the importance of creating a welcoming and hassle - free travel experience that supports Namibia’s competitiveness as a cruise ship destination of relevance in the region.

Local service providers attending the engagement reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, orgamisation, and destination readiness in port area and surrounding tourism precincts, acknowledging the role of positive first impressions in enhancing visitor satisfaction.

The meeting reflects a broader effort to position Namibia as a premier and responsible cruise ship destination, with authorities and private sector stakeholders aligning on a coordinated approach to sustainable cruise tourism growth.
