Tourism in the Dominican Republic continues to have very strong growth numbers and the data released by local institutions confirming the arrival of over 5 million visitors to the Caribbean country between January and May 2024 is undoubtedly a significant success.
These figures mean an increase of 12% compared to the same period in 2023, an increase of 49% compared to 2022 and a significant 43% more than in 2019.
The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic announced that in May the country received 677,475 visitors by air and also in this case there is an increase of 9% compared to the same month in the year 2023, 27% more than 2019 and 28% compared to 2018.
These statistics of great relevance are also linked to the remarkable growth sustained by tourism activity which is reflected at the level of cruise passengers since in May 169,260 visitors landed on the island with an increase of 24% compared to 2023, even 194% more than in 2022 and an increase of 212% compared to 2019.
Globally, 3,716,262 tourists arrived in the first five months, which represents an increase of 10% compared to the January-May period of 2023, 24% more than in 2019 and 30% more than in 2018.
To these extraordinary numbers are added 1,310,728 cruise passengers, far exceeding the 2023 figures with a 17% increase, 154% compared to the same period of 2019 and 174% more than in 2018.
