Chile, splendid Andean country that stretches along the western border of South America with over 6,000 kilometers of coastline in the Pacific Ocean, stood out in the Word Travel Awards 2024 by winning the Best Green Destination award that recognizes the promotion of experiences in nature and sustainable planning in the environmental field, preceding Colombia which had won the 2023 edition.
This award is to add to the various titles that Chile has also received worldwide as Best Green Destination in the World in the 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023 editions for the value of the initiatives it has promoted to discover, enjoy and appreciate the ecological, aesthetic and ethical aspects of the various forms of green tourism.
In addition to this coveted award, Chile has also consolidated itself as the best romantic destination for the seventh time thanks to the Atacama Desert which includes the territories of the regions of Arica, Parinacota and Coquimbo, famous for its lunar landscapes, starry skies, a magnificent place for getaways and romantic stays under the stars.
Chile also triumphed as the best Youth Destination for urban culture, vibrant nightlife and youth activities and adventure tourism for the tenth time, cementing the country as a paradise for the many travelers who love outdoor activities in South America.
A further award was received by the capital Santiago, which stood out for its remarkable cultural, entertainment, gastronomic offer, for its vibrant atmosphere and geographically strategic position to visit the rest of the country.
The Undersecretary of Tourism of Chile stated that these awards are a recognition of the commitment to sustainability and promotion of unique tourist experiences and that all the titles received reflect the great commitment to providing responsible options for all types of travelers with the intention to continue improving these standards and always trying to position Chile as a destination of excellence.
The National Director of Sernatur commented that the continental Green Destination award significantly strengthens the work done by the institution and the commitment to responsible tourism practices.
One of the working guidelines is the support and incentive for the certification of companies with the S seal, a distinction that guarantees tourists that the various Chilean tourist services fully comply with the criteria of global sustainability. For all that there will be a continuation working hard to consolidate and reaffirm the leadership at continental level and in the world in this tourism sector.
