Murcia, region and province in south-eastern Spain known for its remarkable historical and cultural heritage, its mild climate and its Mediterranean coast called "Costa Calida" which boasts 250 kilometers of beautiful beaches, has incorporated a pioneering AI assistant into its Tourism Board with the aim of offering travelers interested in visiting the region and furthermore capable of responding in 95 languages.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youthand Sport presented the chatbot on the turismoregionaldemurcia.es website to raise awareness of the characteristics of this assistant which has the ability to offer information on the tourist resources of the 45 municipalities located in the region.
This pioneering chatbot can create routes, itineraries, establish recommendations in a personalized way as well as inform about the main events in the regional tourism calendar, all instantly and functional 24 hours a day throughout the week.
This initiative finalized and integrated into Turismo Region de Murcia was co-financed with ERDF, European Funds and developed by the startup iUrban.es, is based on Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service data protection technology and GPT-4.0, trained with the tourism databases of the Region of Murcia that guarantee very accurate and up-to-date answers based on official content.
In addition to all that, the AI assistant has the ability to analyze the IP of the conversation to know the origin and language of the user with the aim of obtaining statistics on the origin of the visits and on which is most interesting for tourists who want to know in the local area.
All that undoubtedly will make it possible to further personalize the promotion of the regional tourist offer beyond the type of experiences to be highlighted.
The Minister commented that it is an absolutely revolutionary immersive experience that allows anyone to access a virtual tourist office at any time.
The implementation of this generative AI has a number of very significant advantages such as immediate and accurate multilingual interaction, making tourist information in the region of Murcia much more accessible internationally, effectively eliminating language barriers.
The Minister then underlined that the personalization of responses based on the preferences and needs of the user in real time will increase the satisfaction and experience of visitors.
This solution optimizes the collection of data and the analysis of tourism trends, thus allowing the board of the region to adapt with agility and more quickly to market demands and consequently improve its tourism offer.
All that shows how the Tourist Region of Murcia is keeping up with the times and advancing as a smart and cutting-edge tourist destination on a global level.
In this line there are currently 23 destinations in the region that adhere to the National Network of Smart Tourist Destinations, the DTI Network and ten other destinations have begun their transformation process into DTI such as Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cieza, Cartagena, Mula, San Javier, Los Alcázares, Águilas, Alcantarilla and Mancomunidad de Sierra Espuña.
