The group is making significant strides towards sustainability in its latest environmental initiative by radically eliminating the use of plastic used to wrap mattresses and blankets in its premium cabins.

The company acclaimed for its great contribution in elevating the country's capital Muscat as one of the top destinations in the Middle East supports industry, commerce, regional tourism with its efficient young and modern fleet managed an operation to enclose the items on board in eco-friendly paper-based bands that give a stylish new look and reduce plastic waste.

Estimated forecasts are that with this radical change the use of plastic will be reduced by about 21.6 tons per year. A team led by in-house experts through partnerships is showcasing Oman Air's total dedication to reducing single-use plastics on board, a critical step that aligns with ongoing environmental stewardship efforts.

The CEO of Travel and Tour World said that this action is primary and highly significant of the company's strategy to reduce waste and choose products that are more respectful of the environment, reflecting the commitment to national sustainability goals.

Oman Air has significantly reduced plastic consumption on board by removing plastic cutlery cases and halving the use of plastic bottles and cups on various flights in recent years.

Other environmental initiatives by Oman Air include further improvements involving the replacement of 80% of the on-board service trolleys with lighter version ones, an action that has significantly improved fuel efficiency.

In addition the air company has also renewed the packaging for economy class earphones by replacing disposable PET film with recyclable kraft paper bags thanks to the collaboration with Linstol, a leading company in ecological products on board.

This change will avoid 6.48 tons of non-recyclable waste per year, an amount equivalent to saving 100 trees or storing 207,360 liters of water.

All of these initiatives exemplify Oman Air's remarkable commitment to dramatically reducing the environmental impact of air travel maintaining at the same time passenger comfort and convenience.

Oman Air also continues with meticulous analysis to explore innovative environmental solutions throughout its operations supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and fully aligning with national sustainability goals.

The airline has long been involved in sustainable fuel development operations and multiple other initiatives regarding emissions reductions as part of Oman's strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Oman Air will also participate in the upcoming Oman Sustainability Week convention, an event that will feature an extensive exhibition of the latest technologies and sustainable initiatives.

This conference will have as its main objective to promote global and local collaboration, a leadership summit and plan site visits to major sustainability projects in Oman.

The week will also include the OSW Awards on 13 March, recognising significant contributions to sustainability issues.
