Barceló Hotel Group | Investment and Expansion with Four Hotels in Cape Verde

 

Barceló Hotel Group, the 2nd largest hospitality chain in Spain and one of the 30th largest in the world, in terms of number of rooms with four international brands, offering all kinds of experiences in four and five -  star urban and holidays hotels, is investing around € 100 million in Cape Verde archipelago, island country of West Africa in the central Atlantic Ocean consisting of ten volcanic islands with a combined land area of about 4.033 square kilometres.

The expansion of the Spanish hotel group founded in 1931 and based in Palma de Mallorca is taking place in particular on the islands of Boa Vista, Sal and Santiago.

Barceló Hotel Group has announced the opening of its first hotel in the archipelago, with the 5-star Barceló Praia Cabo Verde on the island of Santiago, the largest island of Cape Verde, known for its idyllic beaches and Creole Portuguese – African culture in the country's capital, Praia, located on the southern coast of Santiago Island within Sotavento Islands group.

The Barceló Praia Cabo Verde hotel is located just 10 minutes from the historic centre of Praia, the main commercial, port and tourist centre of the country, where the old town hall, the presidential palace dating back to the 19th century, the neoclassical church Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça, the Ethnographic Museum and the Diogo Gomes Monument stand out.

The hotel provides 80 rooms equipped with all services, dining options such as the Jasmim Buffet Restaurant, the Breeze Gastro Bar by the pool, solarium areas, an infinity pool, gym and fully equipped meeting rooms.

The second opening is the 4-star Hotel Occidental Boa Vista Beach on the island of Boa Vista known for moonlike landscapes of the Viana Desert, scenic sand dunes and exotic white – sand beaches include the sprawling Santa Monica and Tortuga where sea turtles are known to nest on the shore and with coastal waters that are a route for migrating humpback whales.

The Hotel is located in the quiet area of Rabil in a privileged location facing the Atlantic Ocean a few steps from Chaves beach and less than 15 minutes from Boa Vista Airport providing 300 rooms equipped with all services with tennis court, private beach area, outdoor swimming pool a shop as well as a hairdresser.

By the end of 2024, Barceló Hotel Group wants to have another hotel on the island of Boa Vista, which will be the 5-star Barceló Marine Boa Vista, which will provide 160 rooms.

The fourth project will be on the island of Sal highlighted by its white sandy beaches and over 350 days of sunshine a year. 

In this tropical paradise that offers visitors a unique blend of rich Cape Verde culture and outstanding natural beauty the accommodation will be a 5-star hotel for adults only providing 260 rooms, located in the Pontão area in the municipality of Santa Maria dotted with pastel - coloured buildings, live - music bars, al fresco restaurants with the old harbor's Weigh House recalling Sal's salt - trading history not far from Kite Beach a very popular kitesurfing destination.

Apart from these openings and projects, Barceló Hotel Group indicates that it supports regenerative tourism that increases the positive impact and contributes to a more equitable local and global development by applying environmental and social protection measures.
