Iryo | New Barcelona – Malaga Railway Route Announced

 

Iryo, a brand of Intermodalidad de Levante S.A., Spain's private high-speed rail operator, a company jointly owned by Italy's state-owned railway company Trenitalia, Spain's regional airline Air Nostrum and infrastructure investment fund Globalvia , has announced the opening of a new route connecting Barcelona to Malaga from 15 December 2024.

According to information by the company, the railway line will have two daily frequencies, one outward and one return, operating seven days a week.

The route will stop in the cities of Zaragoza, the largest centre of the community of Aragon, the capital of Spain, Madrid and the Andalusian city of Córdoba, offering a total of 336.530 places per year.

The approximate duration of the journey will be 5 hours and 50 minutes departing from Barcelona at 11.50 am  and arriving in Malaga at 5.42 pm, while on the opposite route the departure from the main centre of the Costa del Sol will be at 11.35 am and arriving in Barcelona at 5.37 pm.

The Commercial Director of Iryo Christian Ley , in a speech taken up by Preferente, a well-known digital tourist newspaper, underlined that on the verge of closing two years of activity, the group continues to work to improve the service and expand the frequencies, with the certainty that this new Barcelona – Malaga connection will be very well received as the first transversal connection with Seville.

In parallel with the announcement of this new railway section, the Iryo group has anticipated Ouigo and Renfe and has launched the pre-sale of tickets for the whole of 2025, already making 70% of the tickets for next year available to users.
