Meliá Hotels International S.A., well-known Spanish hotel group based in Palma de Mallorca and Rafa Nadal, multiple tennis champion, will open the first Zel urban hotel in Madrid in 2025.
The hotel, currently owned by the brand affiliated by Meliá, merges with Zel, a new brand of resorts and urban leisure hotels born from a collaboration between the hospitality group and Nadal, a collection with a philosophy inspired by welcoming homes, outdoor spontaneous lifestyle of the Mediterranen.
The hotel will open its doors at Gran Via 25, on the very popular and famous urban artery of the Spanish capital nicknamed "the Spanish Broadway" that leads from Calle de Alcalá, close to Plaza Cibeles to Plaza de España, is located under the Affiliated by Meliá brand and part of the portfolio acquired by the ADIA, fund a globally diversified investment institution that invests funds on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi.
Meliá Hotels International S.A. and Rafa Nadal have already announced the opening of four Zel hotels in the Caribbean and Spain and as reported by the Hosteltur portal the accommodation in Madrid will be the first urban structure of the Zel brand.
The opening, scheduled for 2025, although the precise date,has not yet been announced, will see a renovation in line with the standards of the brand, which is oriented and aligned with premium leisure tourism, offering an experience inspired by the purely Mediterranean lifestyle and its way of living in the open air, but adapted, as in this case of Madrid to the urban segment.
The CEO of Meliá Hotels International S.A. Gabriel Escarrer commented that the Zel brand focuses on holiday destinations with a minority of hotel properties, probably 20% will be located in cities that are important in Rafa Nadal's career and Madrid is the first.
