Trenitalia & ÖBB | The New Nightjet Train presented at Rome Tiburtina Railway Station

The Rome Tiburtina railway station located at the confluence of the Nomentano, Pietralata and Tiburtino districts which in 2011 was dedicated to the famous statesman Camillo Benso Count of Cavour as part of the ceremonies for the 150th anniversary of the Italian Unification hosted the presentation of the new Nightjet train born from the collaboration of Trenitalia, primary train operator of Italy and subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane with ÖBB, The National Railway Company of Austria.

The event was attended by the Managing Director of the FS Group Stefano Donnarumma, the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the Board Member of ÖBB – Personenverkehr Sabine Stock, the Austrian Ambassador to Italy Martin Eichtinger and the Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini who defined the project as an initiative that renews the friendship between Italy and Austria.

Nightjet is a night train that connects the cities of Rome, the Austrian capital Vienna and the German city of Munich offering passengers a modern and comfortable experience.

The train leaves every day from Rome Tiburtina Station at 17.25 making intermediate stops in Florence, Bologna and other cities arriving in Vienna at 09.04 the next morning with a section of Nightjet that continues to Munich arriving in the Bavarian city at 09.22.

In the opposite direction, the train leaves Munich station at 8.10 pm and from Vienna at 7.18 pm arriving in Rome Tiburtina at 11.05 am the following day.

The Administration of Trenitalia Luigi Corradi underlined the value of the service by defining it as a beautiful example of evolution of night rail transport by comparing the Nightjet train to a small hotel on tracks and an ideal mean of responding to the growing demand for night travel increased by 50% in recent years.
