OAG Megahubs | London Heathrow Airport, the Most Connected in the World

 

OAG, global travel data provider headquartered in Luton – England – UK founded in 1929 boasting a large network of flight information data including schedules, flight status, connection times and industry references such as airport code considered the world's leading data platform for the travel industry, has published Megahubs 2024 the definitive market ranking of the 50 largest internationally connected airports.

OAG Megahubs has the function of analyzing not only the total number of destinations served but also the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights with the number of destinations served by the airport providing comprehensive and optimal data.

This analysis system is focused on OAG flight data from the world's 100 largest airports and 100 largest international airports based on the total programmatic seats for an entire year.

The specific data are also taken from the busiest day in global aviation in the previous year from September 2023 to August 2024 or Friday 2 August 2024.

London – Heathrow (LHR), the UK's biggest airport located entirely within rhe boundaries of the London Borough of Hillingdon, 23 kilometres west of Central London and 4.8 kilometres west of Hounslow, south of Hayes and north east of Staines-upon-Thames, has been ranked the world's busiest international airport by OAG megahubs for the second year running.

This ranking reflects the expanded destination offering of London -Heathrow Airport and the potential for connection opportunities on the day with the most traffic of the year for global aviation.

The data collected indicate a strong recovery in the Asia Pacific area with the Malaysian airport of Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and the Japanese airport of Tokyo – Haneda (HND) occupying respectively the second and third position in the ranking drawn up by OAG Megahubs.

Among the major hubs in Europe, the Dutch international airport of Amsterdam Schipol (AMS) is in fourth place while the French airport of Paris – Charles de Gaulle (CDG) occupies the seventh position.

Outside the European continent, New York John Fitzgerald Kennedy International Airport (JFK) ranks 6th in the ranking, Turkish Istanbul Airport (IST) placed in eighth postion, Dubai International Airport (DXB) ranks sixteenth, and Colombia's El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá occupies the twentieth place.

OAG Chief Analyst John Grant declared that connectivity continues to be rebuilt as airlines and airports in different markets respond to high travel demand.

Despite the development of geopolitical events, each new route creates new opportunities for connectivity and demonstrates the importance of aviation to the global economy.
