As reported by travelpulse.com well-known portal that offers the latest travel industry news with daily updates on airlines, cruises, hotels and international travel, the new airport boasts a runway that measures 1,850 meters compared to the 500 of the old Codrington airport and twice as wide, now allowing much wider operations during take-off and landing with movements of private jets and larger aircraft as the Embraer E -170.
The new airport is equipped with a complete LED runway lighting system that allows regular night landings and a very large parking lot of about 183 meters that can accommodate a greater number of private jets.
Other notable features are a modern FBO terminal, Fixed Base Operator developed by PLH, Peace, Love and Happiness that will fully satisfy travelers arriving to enjoy the exclusive experiences of Barbuda with its pristine beaches, lush Caribbean nature and the serene, relaxed atmosphere that distinguishes this island.
Currently, BMN Air, Calvin Air, Liat 20, and private jets are allowed to reach the new airport via PLH FBO.
In 2024, arrivals by air in Antigua and Barbuda grew by 17% in the first eight months with a total of 230.000 visitors, a figure that represents a growth of 13% compared to the arrivals recorded in the same period of 2019 which had been the best year ever and now with a new airport of greater capacity the prospects in terms of incoming tourism will be even more optimistic for future new records.
