Buenos Aires – Argentina | Tourism Growth Forecasts Supported by the Cruise Industry

 

Buenos Aires, capital and largest city of Argentina situated on the western shore of the Rio de la Plata River on South America's southeastern coast, a metropolis well known for its vibrant, electric nighlife, superb arts scene, unique, cultural traditions, pulsating and passionate districts, a very rich architectural and cultural heritage combinated with a modern creative energy through The Tourism Board has announced that a significant number of cruise passengers will enter the port Benito Quinquela Martin Cruise Terminal located near the revitalized and lively, trendy area of Puerto Madero.

The Argentine capital is preparing for a cruise season that will show significant numbers according to data shared by  Entur Tourism Observatory, more than 479.000 passengers will arrive at the terminal between November 2024 and April 2025, a figure that would represent the best of the last 12 years with tourism growth forecasts supported by the cruise industry.

The President of the Buenos Aires Tourism Board, Valentin Diaz Gillingan, commented that the fact that the cruise passengers continue to choose the city of Buenos Aires as a destination is a source of pride but at the same time it is an incentive to continue working to develop a tourist offer that rises to the levels of the great cities of the world.

This commitment represents an opportunity to create a complete experience aimed at a type of tourist who spends few days in the destination compared to other segments.

As relevant detail is worth noting that the 2024 - 2025 cruise season will represent the best of the last 12 years in terms of the number of passengers, since the last season with higher numbers was during the period between January and march when 407.000 passengers reached at the cruise port in 159 calls.

In addition between january and march, 76% of the 125 calls that will take place in the entire season will be concentrated with first month of the year being the period in which the most ships arrive representing the 30% of the total and 27% of the ships that arrive during the entire the entire season will spend at least one night in Buenos Aires.

Interesting are the data concerning international tourism in the city, which reveal that between january and August 2024, 1.895.025 international visitors entered the city of Buenos Aires, a figure that represents an increase of 6.15% compared to the 1.785.207 who arrived in the same period last year that is only 1.75% lower than the data recorded in 2019, which represented an all-time record for international tourism in the Argentine capital.

Among the markets of origin as far as international tourists are concerned, Brazil led the ranking with 523.388 visitors followed by the United States of America with 221.307, Uruguay 218.492, Chile 179.266 and Peru with 97.427.

Buenos Aires has always been a destination that exudes charm and offers a lot to tourists, boasting in its metropolitan terms 150 museums, 287 theaters, 380 bookstores and more than 7.000 gastronomic establishments.

The traditional and most promoted places stand out as always but there is also another city, pulsating, captivating, emerging that excites, delights and it is also a discovery for the residents of this South American metropolis.

Among these novelties there are the schools of Milonga, a famous folkloric musical genre from the Rio de la Plata Region, typical in Argentina but also in Uruguay and Southern Brazil coming from the gaucho culture,  played in duple time but often with a guitar accompaniement in 6/8 which support to enter more deeply in the local culture, independent theaters that offer performance options that go beyond the usual standard, specialized cafes that give new accents and flavors to the city, speakeasy, new rooftop bars to enjoy a cool drink with breathtaking views of the city and Buenos Aires in all its special essence offers all that and much more.
