Ecuador | CAF and the Ministry of Tourism Sign an Agreement to Promote Investments, Training and Sustainable Development

 

Ecuador, country in northwestern South America divided into three large region, the Pacific coast, the Andean part where the capital Quito is located and the Ecuadorian Amazon, one of the most environmentally diverse countries in the world boasting a rich cultural heritage since the period of the Inca Empire, the largest political unit of Pre – Columbian America has seen the CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism sign a Memorandum of Understanding to promote actions that strengthen tourism in the country.

This MoU, Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement that establishes the basis for strategic cooperation seeking to promote investment, training and development of the tourism sector was signed during the “Peace, Tourism and Competitiveness” Forum in conjunction with the World Tourism Day with the participation of the CAF Representative in Ecuador Patricia Alborta, the CAF Director of Tourism Oscar Rueda and the Minister of Tourism of Ecuador Mateo Estrella.

The agreement stipulated has as main goal the promotion of joint actions that strengthen the tourism sector of Ecuador with the organization of conferences, seminars and workshops with training programs to strengthen and develop the MIPYMES, the dissemination of the financing programs that CAF offers through the Catalog of digital tools and financing programs for the Ecuadorian tourism sector and the promotion of tourism investments in the country.

This partnership with other initiatives also includes the exchange of good practices and the attraction of tourism investments.

During the signing of this agreement, the CAF Representative in Ecuador Patricia Alborta wanted to emphasize the great natural and cultural diversity of Ecuador that attracts international visitors every year and for this reason, after the signing of this agreement, the primary objective becomes to support the strengthening and development of the tourism sector and that of destinations, ensuring that all is more sustainable.

The Minister of Tourism Mateo Estrella commented that the key role that tourism activity has in Ecuador highlighting its potential as an engine of economic growth and social development in the country, also emphasizing the importance of continuing to work to strengthen relations of collaboration and cooperation to promote tourism in a transversal way in the country.

CAF Director of Tourism Oscar Rueda during the Forum presented the study on experiences for tourism in the countries of the region where he highlighted CAF's work on the topic and the fundamental importance of the tourism industry to generate significant externalities and a multiplier effect if investments are channeled.
