Scotland has always been and is a top destination in Great Britain for its unique charm and captivating offer, in high demand with significant tourism flows and in the first six months of the current year, the Office for National Statistics for the International Passengers Survey IPS showed data that revealed a total of 1.975.000 international visitors with an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2023 and an increment of 46% more than 2019.

With regard to the expenditure in the first half of 2024, international visitors spent almost £1.5 billion, which is 2% more than in the same period last year and 30% more than in 2019 in real terms adjusted for inflation.

European visitors contributed for just over half of all travel during that period followed by tourists coming from North America who continue to show the strongest growth in visits, up 54% than 2023.

VisitScotland's chief executive officer, the Scotland's national tourist board providing information, advice and inspiration to visitors who are planning a trip to the destination, Vicki Miller said this data shows and confirms how Scotland remains a favourite, top destination for international visitors in 2024 and continues to outperform other parts of Britain.

All this is testament to the strength of Scotland's offering, with visits and spending higher than 2019 and 2023, which was a record year concerning international visitors.

The visitors who stay longer spending more are undoubtedly crucial for the Scottish industry and the visitor economy, supporting businesses and communities across the country.

The strong international recovery of Scotland has been the result of an assiduous work undertaken by VisitScotland in close cooperation with partners and the industry to boost demand over recent years.

Following that it is necessary to continue to develop this strategy optimally in key local markets inspiring more national and international visitors.
