FIAB | Italy, World’s Leading Cycling Tourism Destination

 

Based on the survey by FIAB – Italian Foundation for the Environment and Bicycle, a federative environmentalist organization whose mission is the diffusion of the bicycle as a means of daily and leisure transport in a framework of redevelopment of both urban and suburban environment, which has recently become coordinator of EuroVelo, the largest network of cycle paths in Europe with data that emerged at TTG Travel Experience, event held in Rimini from 09th to 11th October revealed that Italy is the world's leading cycling tourism destination.

FIAB, headquartered in Milan in addition to having strong roots in Italy with almost 200 local offices around the territory is a member of ECF - European Cyclists' Federation and it also focuses on the promotion of the practice tourism using the bicycle as the main mean of locomotion, that is to say a form of tourism that respects the environment.

The organization usually develops statistical surveys and has now entered into close collaboration through the national cycling network project Bicitalia with EuroVelo, organization headquarterred in Grindelwald – Switzerland, which manage a network of long - distance cycling routes criss - crossing Europe connecting and uniting the whole continent and with other planned constructions across various stages.

One of the main objectives of EuroVelo is to extend the development of long-distance cycling mobility, in particular focused on tourism.

The idea is to complete the construction of the network in the minimum extension of 20.000 kilometers, a strategic project to enhance the cycling routes in Italy with a sector destined to grow and nowadays 88% of the operators in the sector expect an increase in turnover in the coming months.

As an additional note, during the talk at TTG Travel Experience, it was recalled that Rimini will be the city designated to host the 2026 edition of Velo - City, the world cycling summit that will see the presence of over 1.500 delegates from more than 60 countries.
