Peru | The Tourism Sector will Account for 2.9% of Nation's GDP in 2024

 

Peru, nation in western South America, a megadiverse country with habitats ranging from the vast arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west ro the peaks of the Andes mountains extending from the north to the southeast of the national territory to the rainforest of the Amazon basin boasting a very rich cultural and historical heritage since the ancient and medieval periods with one of the longest histories of civilization as any country through the Minister of Commerce and Tourism Desilú León revealed that in 2024 the Peruvian tourism sector will account for 2.9% of the Nation's GDP generating up to 1.3 million jobs.

These data highlighted during the development of "Peru Travel Mart", Premier Annual Event for Peru Tourism Promotion, the main platform for marketing and the Peruvian tourist offer inaugurated by the President of the Republic Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra undoubtedly indicate how the tourism industry is a sector of enormous importance and a remarkable source of wealth and employment for Peruvians.

Travel Mart, which is also a sort of tool offering the unique opportunity to know the country at 360 degree experiencing all its marvels, planned to reach 6.000 appointments during the two days of the event and capture more than $18 million in sales of Peruvian tourism services and products in the world.

There will be more than 165 buyers from many countries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, South Korea, Spain, The Netherlands among others and in addition there will be negotiations with 150 national companies dedicated to tourism.

Through Mincetur, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, the Minister declared that the Peruvian Government has as its primary objective to position the country in front of the world, a task that would not be possible without the pooling of efforts with the private sector.

Mincetur with the parallel actions of Promperú, Governmental promotion agency with the responsibility to ensure the growth of Peruvian companies internationally have developed a series of promotional strategies that highlight the diversity and richness of the regions of the country.

The Director of Mincetur commented that an example of that are the 17 fairs and 5 rounds of tourism business developed in 2024, whose commercial potential is equivalent to 212 million soles will have an impact on the different regions of Peru.

The President of the Republic Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in her inaugural speech stated that Peru Travel Mart since 2008 when it began its operations, has been a fundamental pillar for the promotion of the country as a tourist destination of excellence.

Nowadays starting again with the main objective of strengthening the ties between national tour operators and international buyers in a space that seeks to showcase the cultural, natural and gastronomic richness of the beloved motherland.

The Minister of Trade and Tourism Desilú León commented that in addition to all the efforts made to strengthen Peruvian tourism a relevant point is the strategy of community tourism is being promoted with the important objective of benefiting the local economy, families and communities.

With this framework, an authentic tourist experience will be promoted, re-evaluating the natural and cultural riches of the country with the awareness that the possibilities of tourism in Peru are endless.
