Abruzzo Region – Italy | New Riviera del Gigante Tourist Brand Launch

 

Abruzzo, region wth ordinary statute located in southern Italy located between the central Adriatic and the central Appennines has a new tourist brand named Riviera del Gigante.

The President of the Regional Council Marco Marsilio and the Undersecretary with responsibility for Tourism Daniele D'Amario presented on 08th November  this new tourist brand in Pescara, city most populous of the region located on the Adriatic Sea, an initiative promoted by the ATS Città della Costa, a temporary association of purpose that brings together the seven municipalities that make up the brand such as Silvi, Alba Adriatica, Giulianova, Martinisicuro, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto and Tortoreto Lido.

The ATS Association operates with a view to overcoming a fragmented and local approach, typical of individual municipalities, by adopting an overall vision that includes the entire coastal territory with the conviction that only through an organic and coordinated plan, it is possible to effectively face environmental, economic and social challenges.

The primary objective is to generate a significant and sustainable impact in urban areas, improving the quality of life of residents and reinforcing the tourist attractiveness of the area.

In the name of the tourist brand, the word giant is the Mount Gran Sasso, which overlooks the seven coastal resorts that have been awarded the blue flag and the plans are to make the Abruzzo maritime coast competitive, more attractive and visible, which boasts an offer of 45.000 beds, many kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches and good infrastuctures next to this emblematic mountain.

One of the primary objectives will be to deseasonalise the offer, with plans for the diversification of tourism, transforming the seven municipalities of the brand also as receptive hubs for skiing and winter sports on the slopes of the Gran Sasso which with its 2.194 meters is the highest mountain massif of the Apennines and located entirely in the Abruzzo region and inserted in a large National Park which offers multiple opportunities for all fans of winter sports, trekking, hiking, hiking, nature tourism, cycling and much more.

The President of the Regional Council has declared that the battle against parochialism and factionalism that has always weakened Abruzzo in the face of other tourist competitors has always been one of my strengths, so seeing these municipal administrations governed by different political forces feeds the desire to create synergy by joining forces to show a more attractive and captivating image of the territory.

All this creates pride and at the same time strengthens the Region's push to invest in tourism promotion activities, promoting tourism also through the defense and enhancement of the coast.

The Councillor for Infrastructure Umberto D' Annuntiis commented that and it is also considered that in the last mandate over € 30 million were spent precisely against the erosion of the coast, that in the next programming cycle that is starting, and that some works are already in the tender phase, the hope is to see soon in open construction sites and in action,  Total resources of €74 million are envisaged which, together with those already spent, amount to €100 million, against erosion, investments never seen before to protect the local coastline.

The Undersecretary with responsibility for tourism commented that this launch represents a very happy day because it was not at all obvious to see the mayors of several neighboring municipalities do the tourism promotion of an area such as that of the coast of the province of Teramo, which then achieves important numbers in terms of tourist presences especially in the summer period, representing the most significant volume in the regional market.

The challenge is that of a block promotion that provides for the creation of a single tourist brand for the coast of Teramo, with a coordinated image and billboards of shared events to avoid penalizing overlaps.

At the event with the President and the Subsegreatio were present mayors and councilors with responsibility for tourism of all the municipalities involved in the project and part of the Rivera del Gigante tourist brand.
