Bolivia | Incoming Tourism Growing, Consolidating its Recovery with New Plans

Bolivia, landlocked country located in Central South America, highlighted by a varied territory spanning the Atacama Desert, the Andes Mountains with two mountain ranges such as the Cordillera Occidental next to the Cordillera Oriental boasting the world's largest dry tropical forest in the Chaco region and the largest geographic extension of Amazonian plains and lowlands after critical years in terms of incoming tourism shows growth consolidating its recovery with new plans.

Between January and October 2024, according to statistics reported by the competent national bodies, more than $589.2 million was generated, a figure that exceeded those obtained in the years 2023, 2022 and 2021.

This result is quite satisfactory compared to 2023 when $558.05 million was generated, which means an increase of 5.6%.

In 2023, Bolivia received 818.777 international visitors while in the current year not yet over the South American country has already received 864.515 tourists coming from abroad, which undoubtedly means considerable growth.

All tht represents a very comforting figure that reflects the reactivation of incoming tourism by overcoming the difficulties and consequences left by the pandemic - COVID -19, the coup d'état of 2019 in addition to other external challenges and internal blockages, through policies that promote new destinations and close collaboration between public and private sectors, aimed at rejectding to the current demands of tourism in the country according to sources reported by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Hiver Flores.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism said that this increase reflects a strengthening of the inbound tourism sector highlighting the positive impact of some specific months, in particular January and February 2024, which recorded notable increases of 55.8% and 39.7% respectively.

Now, one of the main issues is the formation of the Tourism Cabinet created to address the current demands of the tourism sector regarding air connectivity, facilitation, security, tourism promotion and availability of foreign currency.

Coordination meetings and technical roundtables have been convened with various actors in the sector, to define actions that benefit the industry through a technical and objective analysis.

A further plan is also to implement an administrative solution for the creation of the White Flags in tourism transport, a measure that consists of using the white flag in case of social conflict or road blocks that impede the free transit of national and international tourists in all country.

Other operations concern emergency management and assistance have also been planned as well as establishing security protocols and assistance for tourists in the event of blockages, which would include the development of tourist information centres in key areas and also the implementation of support teams to assist travellers in emergency situations.
