Jordan, Arab nation situated in the Southern Levant region of West Asia in the Middle East on the east bank of the Jordan River, Hashemite Kingdom defined by an immense cultural and historical heritage, home to the famed archaeological site of Petra, seaside resorts and nature reserves celebrated with a tourist train trip with 180 people from various group of Jordanian society on board from the capital Amman to the ancient site of Umm al - Jimal, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the seventh in Jordanian territory.
The trip an implementation of an agreement signed by the Umm al - Jimal Municipality and JHR, Jordan - Hejaz Railway Corporation to boost
domestic tourism to this site, great, historical heritage of the country
crowned with this prestigious title achieved in july 2024.
Umm el - Jimal is situated at the confluences of two wadis, two very narrow valleys or channels that bring their waters from the glentle slopes of the Djebel el – Druze to the north of the site, appears as an approximate rectangle of four hundred metres on each side of a stunning lunar landscapes and it is one of best preserved Byzantine sites, later early Islamic city whose remains still visibly emerge from the ground, as well as for a Roman villa located southweast of the Byzantine remains.
This site made up of more than 150 buildings including 128 houses and 15 churches, is the most representative complex of the rural civilization of late antiquity from 4th to 9th century in the eastern Mediterranean, the neighbouring Nabatatean and Roman village, although completely ruined is also of immense relevance because it is the only archaeological evidence of a village structure in Jordan that existed during two centuries preceding the famous Palmyran revolt.0000
Umm el – Jimal has become the seventh site recognized and protected in Jordan by UNESCO and can now be reached by train.
The primary objective of the Jordanian Government is now to promote this site through targeted tourism campaigns, enhancing this destination for the title otorgated by UNESCO and obviously for its immense, historical value.
