Guatemala, Central American country south of Mexico, land highlighted by ancient Mayan sites, rainforests and volcanoes on 1st January 2025 opened its doors to cruise tourism at the Port of Quetzal, Guatemala'a largest Pacific Ocean port for both cargo traffic and a as a stop point for cruise liners receiving the cruise ship Nautica, the first to arrive in the Central American country in 2025.
The company Portuaria Quetzal, providing mooring, unmooring, use of doxk, tugboat service, anchoring, navigation aids, transportation and other towing services, in charge of managing the arrival of the cruise ship explained that after passing through Guatemala, the Náutica, continued its route to Acapulco, famed city and port on Mexico's Pacific coast, well known for its stunning beaches, golf courses and nightlife, leaving a trail of cultural exchanges and strengthening the image of Guatemala as a word – class tourist destination.
Cruise tourism has grown significantly in the Central American country, positioning Guatemala as a favourite destination, already in 2023 it was considered the best cruise site on Central America according to Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine.
INGUAT, the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism stressed that the most visited destinations by passengers include Antigua Guatemala, Lake Atitlán, archaelological sites such as Iximché and Quiriguá, beaches of unique beauty such as Amatique Bay Rio Dulce, Castillo de San Felipe and Monterrico.
In addition,the Institute of Tourism of Guatemala, celebrated this event by highlighting the activities that tourists carried out during their stay such as visits to coffee farms, cultural tours and beaches visits, among other destinations.
