Paris – France | World Leader in Tourism with Record Growth

 

Paris, France's capital, a major European city and renowned, global centre for art, culture, design, fashion, gastronomy, nicknamed "la ville Lumière" the city of lighs for its streets, places, squares and monuments created in a warm, welcoming and inspiring atmosphere, creating a magical aura consolidating itself once again as world leader in tourism with record growth.

The French metropolis saw a 15.4% increase in international arrivals in 2024, boosted by the Olympic Games and the highly anticipated reopening of Notre - Dame Cathedral, iconic, medieval masterpiece on the Île de la Cité, in the 4th arrondissement, boosting tourism, hospitality and attracting more than 70 million visitors throughout the year.

Paris has cemented its position as one of the world's leading tourist destinations all year round also in winter when from 1st  November to 8th December 2024, international arrivals increased by 15.4% compared to 2023, reaching 1.3 million visitors.

Excluding the slight drop of tourists coming from the Middle East and Central America with - 5.6% and – 2.3% respectively, international visitors from all other regions travelled ro Paris in greater numbers, Southern Europe contributed 376.000 arrivals with an increase of 8%, Northern Europe with 174.000 and an increment of 21% and North America with 191.000 and an increase of 19% figures wich confirm how Paris is always a top destination.

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games undoubtedly played a pivotal tole in this growth and Sabre Corporation, well known travel technology company headquartered in Southlake - Texas - U.S. the largest GDS provider for air bookins confirmed that international arrivals increased by 33% during the first week of the Games with the top source markets being New York and Tokyo.

In addition, visa reported a 42% increase in the number of international cardholers visiting the French capital during the first week of the Olympics compared to the same period in 2023 and as further note, Olympics attendees spent 20% more than non - attendees, with restaurant spending showing the largest annual increase of 49%.

The increase in demand has caused hotel prices in Paris to increase considerably and during the Olympic period, room prices increased by 300%, with the average price per night reaching €700 compared to €170 in 2023.

The momentum of Paris is expected to continue in 2025, the city has been maintaining its top position in Euromonitor International Top 100 Destination Cities Index for the fourth consecutive year, reinforcing also with this relevant detail, its eternal, global appeal.
