Honduras, Central American country with Caribbean Sea coastlines to thr north and the Pacific Ocean to the south, a land characterized by its natural beauty with pristine beaches, rainforests, a world-class diving destination and a rich historic and cultural heritage linked to the Mayan civilization, through IHT, the Honduran Institute of Tourism, the Merchant Marine, the Cruise Port and the Bay Island Navy signed an agreement for the development of tourism in the Caribbean region of the country with the development a new cruise port in Tela.
This event held in Tela was attended by Mayor Ricardo Cálix, the head of Tourism Yadira Gómez and the Manager of the Cruise Port and Marina of the Bay Islands, Kester Bodden.
This agreement will allow technical studies to be carried out on the feasibility of the construction of the new cruise port in Tela, municipality on the northern Caribbean coast in the department of Atlantida, famed gateway to the vast Lancetilla Botanical Garden and Jeanette Kawas National Park, within the framework of an ambitious tourism project that seeks to enhance the maritime transport infrastructure in the Central American country.
The agreement gives way to other ambitious tourism projects that include the expansion of the cruise ship dock in Roatan, famed Caribbean island of Honduras, widely known for having some of the best diving and snorkeking hubs on the Mesoameican Barrier Reef and the development of terminals of the mentioned Tela and Utila, another island of the Bay Islands, north of the mainland, known for its coral reefs and many dive sites, all with the aim of strengthening tourism in the region.
Thus it has been reported that the studies to be carried out will cover a series of essential technical analyses, such as ocean assessments, the study of erosion and sediment risks, and the preliminary design of infrastructures such as access channels and maneuvring areas for cruise ships, all under strict criteria of environmental sustainability.
All in all, the aim is to ensure that the new port is not only a viable option for the growth of tourism, but also respectful of the natural environment that characterises the region.
