Russia has aspiration to recover its International Tourism introducing a series of new initiatives with the purpose to attract international visitors and the national authorities are working to revive its tourism industry and boost economic growth, attracting investments from abroad in addition to improve international relations amid geopolitical tensions resulting from the war with Ukraine.
The Russian Federation in order to welcome 50 million visitors by 2025 is making a strong effort to revitalize its tourism industry, with various initiatives include visa - free travel, new air routes and a calendar of international events, all planned and designed to improve accessibility and showcase the country's rich cultural heritage.
Since August 2024, citizens of 62 nations have been able to enter Russia without a visa for specific periods and in addition e-visas are now available for citizens of 55 countries, allowing stays up to 16 days.
With all that it is hoped that these simplified entry processes will encourage more tourists to explore Russia's diverse destinations and linked to this aspect, as far as connectivity is concerned, Russia is working with several countries to introduce new direct flights.
Russia is also taking advantage of relevant international trade events such as Otdykh Leisure Expo, leading travel trade fair for inbound and outbound markets held in the capital of the country Moskow and the MITT exhibition, an international platform for countries, regions and companies from Russia and the world to present and promote their travel and hospitality products and services.
Since Russia declared war on Ukraine in 2022, the number visitors to the Russian Federation has dropped significantly due to sanctions, travel restrictions and security concerns, in 2019 the country welcomed 24.4 million international visitors, but in 2023, it experienced a drastic decline, and some estimates suggest a lost of almost 50% of pre - war tourist figures.
