Nicaragua | Launch of a Digital Catalog to Offer New Options in Rural and Community Tourism

Nicaragua, Central American nation set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a country known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes, beaches and wildlife, known as "the breadbasket of Central America" due to having the most fertile soil and arable land in the region, destination which offers a variety of activities, including hiking, surfing, exploring splendid colonial cities and town has taken an important step in the promotion of its tourism sector with the launch of a digital catalog to offer new options in Rural and Community tourism.

This project implementef by Intur, the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism,which promotes the country as national and international tourist destination and bolster a responsible, sustainable, inclusive and accessible tourism for all, include up to 29 initiatives classified in Agroturism, Rural Tourism and Nature, with the aim of diversifying the tourism offer enlarging its portfolio offering more options for the travellers and furthermore promoting sustainable experiences.

The analyst of the tourism development area of Intur, Raúl Zambrana, said that both companies and tourists can access the official website of Intur to explore these proposals and in the catalog there are in addition links to Google Maps to facilitate the exact location of each project.

This initiative seeks to connect tourists to the natural cultural and architectural heritage of Nicaragua and at the same time strengthening the visibility and image of the destination at 360 degree.

Rural and Community tourism is key to the economic development of local communities, promoting sustainable activities, an essential resource for the Nicaraguan tourism industry, offering unique, experiential and participatory experiences.

In this way, also the generation of jobs and the strengthening of the tourism sector are promoted which directly benefits rural communities,while promoting the conservation of the environment and local culture, a great heritage of the country.
