Colombia | To Host the First Edition of the International Congress on Religious Tourism

Colombia, will host the first edition of the International Congress on Religious Tourism to be held between 5th and 19th May 2025 an event that will see the participation of several experts on the subject, academics and community leaders who will will discuss a number of topics, including the importance of cultural heritage and its relationship to faith travel.

The Congress is organized by the Colombian Episcopal Conference, the Global Religious Tourism Network, the Organization Corporation El Minuto de Dios with the collaboration of the Vice Ministry of Tourism.

According to the official website the International Congress on Religious Tourism will be an itinerant event through 10 Colombian cities starting from the capital of the country Bogotá in the first two opening days and then it will reach relevant centres of Colombia such as Ibagué, Armero, Tuluá, Popayán, Cartagena de Indias and culminating in Santa Marta.

As part of of the event the organizers have highlighted each of the tourist attractions of the host cities, such as cathedrals and shrines, including those on Mount Monserrate and the Divine Child, both in Bogotá.

The Congress will be held under the slogan “Tourism and Development : Evangelization and Peace in the territories” and aims to analyze the relationship between religiosity, tourism and territorial development.

An important topic will be focused on exploring how evangelization and tourism can boost the social and economic development of communities and tourism will be highlighted as a relevant tool for integration, growth and to foster peace and reconciliation in Colombia and in all the areas affected by violence.

The organizers also stressed the importance of the Congress that will take place during the Jubilee year in the Catholic Church, which is an event of spiritual renewal that is celebrated every 25 years.
