Cuba | Strengthening Solid Ties with Russia and Recognized at MITT Moskow as a Premium Tourist Destination

Cuba’s presence at MITT, Moskow International Tourism and Hospitality Fair, held from 18th to 20th March 2025 in the Russian capital, marked a milestone in the promotion of the Caribbean island strengthening solid ties with the Russian Federation and recognized as a premium tourist destination.

A large delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism led by First Deputy Minister Jorge Alberto Garcia, actively participated in the event, which brought representatives from 54 regions of the Russian Federation and 36 countries.

During the fair, the Deputy Minister highlighted the strategic importance of Russia for Cuban tourism and in statements to Prensa Latina he pointed out that Russia has positioned itself as the third largest source of tourists to the island, with a total of 186.000 visitors in 2024 commenting that the interest shown by Russian tour operators, travel agencies and airlines reflects Cuba’s enormous potential as a preferred destination.

The Cuban stand, traditionally recognized for its high influx of visitors, was awarded as the Most Welcoming Stand, a recognition that not only highlighted the carefully crafted design of the space, but also the warmth hospitality of the Cuban team welcoming the attendees.

The distinction was also reflected by the growing interest of Russian tour operators for Cuba with numerous visits consolidating itself as a premium destination Cuba for sea, sun, beaches, its luxury hotels and resorts, natural attractiveness but also for its rich cultural heritage highly appreciated.

The Tourism Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Russia, Cristina León, emphasized the need to diversify the tourist offer to attract a greater number of visitors stating that it is essential to promote regions such as the east of the country in particular Santiago de Cuba, a destination that combines history, culture and a unique heritage richness.

The participation in MITT 2025 at Moskow also served for the Caribbean country to promote the International Tourism Fair FITCuba, which will take place from 30th April to 3rd May 2025 in the capital of the country Havana. 

This event, considered key for the Cuban tourism sector and authorities, was useful for to consolidate strategic alliance already existing as in the case that one with Russia but also to position Cuba in the international landscape as a premium destination for various markets.

In conclusion, the Cuban presence in Moskow not only strengthen ties with Russia, but also demonstrated the Caribbean island’s commitment to diversify and enrich its tourism offer, and the new proposal is betting on destinations less known that combine history, culture and nature.

This participation in an international tourism trade fair was an important step for Cuba to position itself as an attractive choice for travellers from all over the world showcasing all its potential and appeal with the aim to consolidate itself as a  leading destination in the Caribbean and international tourism landscapes.
