Boca Chica, a town located 30 km from the capital of the country, Santo Domingo, highlighted by its beach Playa Boca Chica, known for its turquoise waters, white sand and family - friendy atmosphere, protected by a coral reef, acting as a natural barrier and creating a large, natural swimming pool ideal for swimming and wading facing a shallow bay where the mangrove - covered islet La Matica, a renowned habitat for birds lies, will have a relevant investment to revamp its beachfront and surrounding infrastructure with the aim to elevate it as a leading tourist destination.
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado announced a RD$600 million investment with a plan that includes rebuilding the boardwalk from Playa San Andrés, a beautiful beach stretches over a length of approximately 2 kilometres to Boca Chica, paving nearby streets, and upgrading the drainage and wastewater systems.
As part of the project, three new parks, a square named Plaza los Caracoles and a children’s park will be constructed.
A local tourism cluster will also be established, and training programs for youth in hospitality will be implemented in partnership with universities.
Vendors will receive stainless steel equipments for their booths and access to preferential loans throughout PROMYPIME, the National Council for the promotion of micro, small and medium enterprises to help their businesses.
Work is set to begin in 90 days, following a technical survey, and the Minister of Tourism emphasized that the project will bring Boca Chica’s beach up the standards of the country’s leading tourist destinations.
